Long days, a lot of laughing, one big pass

The four of us wanted something properly adventurous, and pairing the Annapurna Circuit with Nar Phu Valley won out over the other options we'd looked at. Organizing everything from Australia beforehand — itinerary, transport, accommodation, gear — meant that once we landed, we could just focus on getting ready to walk rather than sorting logistics. Our guide was Bibek Dhamala, who's actually the founder of the company — this was the second time one of us had trekked with him specifically, which said something about the kind of experience we were expecting. He wasn't just walking ahead of us — he'd explain what we were looking at and talk about the villages and local way of life along the way, which made the walking feel more connected to the place rather than just a march to the next lodge. Our porters, Rajesh and Bikash, kept things moving smoothly the whole way. Nar Phu was noticeably quieter and more remote than the main circuit sections, with a different character to the villages and landscape. Altitude hit the four of us differently — one person breezed along while another needed to slow right down, and we learned fast there was no point comparing ourselves to each other. Some of the longer, higher days were genuinely tough, and we got through them with patience, food, plenty of breaks, and the usual jokes between old friends. The tea house evenings were a highlight in their own right — sitting together, eating something warm, talking through the day. Reaching Thorong La together after all those days was the obvious high point, and Nar Phu's scenery was unlike anything we get back home. Our advice for other groups: train beforehand, don't underestimate the altitude, and go with people you actually enjoy spending long days with, the hard parts get a lot easier when you can laugh about them together.

A family trek that turned into a shared achievement

We wanted a family adventure that went beyond sightseeing, and combining the well-known Annapurna Circuit with the more remote Nar Phu Valley gave us both dramatic mountain scenery and a real look at traditional Himalayan village life. Planning as a family meant a lot of questions up front — walking distances, accommodation, altitude, what to pack — and getting those answered clearly beforehand made us far more comfortable about the trip ahead. We didn't all walk at the same pace, and that turned out to be fine. Some days one of us would be ahead while another needed more time, and we were never pushed to move as a single unit. Our guide, Sujan, paid attention to everyone rather than only the strongest walkers, checking in regularly and explaining what each next section would involve. We also had an assistant guide, Hari, along with two porters, Ram and Krishna, and having that many hands on deck made a noticeable difference once we reached higher elevation and things got more demanding. Accommodation grew more basic the further into the valley we went, but the evenings in the tea houses, eating simple warm meals together after a long day outside, became part of what we liked about the trip. There were hard days where everyone was tired, but taking them section by section rather than treating them as setbacks turned those moments into some of our favorite stories afterward. Standing together at one of the trek's major high points, after so many days of walking and staying together, felt like something the whole family had earned. For another family considering this: understand it's a real mountain trek, not a casual holiday, and build in enough time to adjust your pace as a group.

The quieter side of the Annapurna Circuit

We wanted something more adventurous than a standard trek, but without spending the whole trip in a heavily crowded area, the combination of the Annapurna Circuit and the remote Nar Phu Valley struck the right balance between classic Himalayan scenery and villages that see far fewer visitors. Before the trek, we had a meeting with the CEO of Majestic Trails Nepal, who answered all our doubts directly, and we were nervous beforehand, travelling as two women into such remote terrain wasn't something we took lightly. That nervousness didn't last long once things got underway. We were met at the airport in Kathmandu, and our guide Shiva turned out to be cheerful and full of energy the entire way, which made a real difference on the harder days. He checked in with us regularly without ever making it feel like pressure, explaining what was coming the next day and reminding us to keep a comfortable pace as we gained altitude. Some of the higher sections were tougher than we'd anticipated, and we slowed down and took more breaks than usual — he was completely fine with that. Nar Phu itself felt like a different trek entirely, long, quiet stretches through mountain landscape, with Nar and Phu villages being some of the most memorable parts of the trip. Accommodation got simpler further in, and the food was basic but exactly what you want after a full day of walking. Crossing Thorong La was the hardest physical day, but standing at the pass together afterward summed up the whole trip. After we finished, the company followed up with us for feedback, which felt like they genuinely wanted to know how it went rather than just moving on to the next group. Between Shiva, the planning, and how well organized the whole thing felt, we'd say this is one of the better companies out there for female trekkers specifically, and we'd come back and recommend it to other women and trekkers generally.

Genuinely Special From Start to Finish

We came to Nepal expecting scenery and got so much more. The flower arrangement in our hotel room on arrival, the private candlelight dinner setup on the Nagarkot terrace (arranged in advance by Majestic Trails without us asking twice), the way our driver Prakash learned our names on Day 1 and treated us like family throughout — these details made the trip. We opted for the 5-star hotel upgrade and stayed at Fish Tail Lodge in Pokhara, which was incredible. Our tour also included the Everest mountain flight which was breathtaking. The honeymoon package felt genuinely thought-through for couples, not just adapted from a standard tour.
